Four Palestinian prisoners remain on hunger strike in Israeli prisons

20-11-2021

Four Palestinian prisoners in Israeli detention currently remain on hunger strike in protest of their unfair and indefinite administrative detention without a charge or trial, according to the Detainees Affairs Commission. The oldest hunger-striker of the four prisoners is prisoner Kayed Fasfous, who has been on hunger strike for 130 days in protest of his detention without a charge or trial, followed byHesham Abu Hawwash (97 days), Ayyad Hureimi (60 days) and Lo’ai Al-Ashqar (42 days days). Fasfous has been in hospital for nearly two months following serious deterioration in his health conditions. He has been demanding an end of their detention without charge or trial and based on the so-called secret file which even their lawyers are not allowed to view. On Thursday, the number of the hunger-strikers was five until Alaa al-Aaraj, a fellow Palestinian prisoner, ended 103 days of hunger strike after reaching out an agreement with the Israeli occupation authorities ending his detention without charge or trial. Israel’s widely condemned policy of administrative detention allows the detention of Palestinians without charge or trial for renewable intervals usually ranging between three and six months based on undisclosed evidence that even a detainee’s lawyer is barred from viewing.
